Following the UC San Diego Post Baccalaureate Premedical Program, the majority of students submit their applications to allopathic and osteopathic medical schools across the country.
Through a survey of the 2013-2014 cohort, most students applied to medical school immediately for Fall 2015 medical school admissions, or after a small wait for the 2016 admissions cycle.
During the "glide" year between the program end and the start of medical school, many students choose to work or volunteer in areas of research, clinic coordination, emergency departments (as scribes), and other healthcare related jobs. Because the Postbac Premed program is situated in La Jolla near numerous healthcare institutions and biotech and pharmaceutical industries, the location is ideal for seeking a job during this time.
In addition, the program is designing an alumni network to ensure students can be in contact with previous cohorts to understand and link to those research and employment opportunities.
